Breath is essential. Ironically, my work is often begun in a breathless state of urgency.
The compulsion to express and manifest on a physical plane leads me to invoke color, movement and texture upon two-dimensional surfaces in order to yield greater depth and dimension. The trinity of color, movement and texture represents a complimenting emotional plane that works in conjunction with the physical aspect of what is being created. The collective synergy gives way to a spiritual awakening experienced during the creative process, which lives on within the new work.
The return of evenly rhythmic breath is symbolic of coming full circle, much like the butterfly ascends from the chrysalis, having grown wings to fly . Hours, days, weeks or months may go by in the process.
I am most inspired by the sky, boundless imaginations, sweeping land and seascapes, the sounds of aged forests, colorful people, animals, music, laughter, compassion, spontaneity, and open expressions of kindness.
